Seasonal Centre Prep: Opening Up For a New Dive Season
For centres with a genuine off-season, reopening is not simply unlocking the doors again - equipment, staffing, and systems all need a proper check after weeks or months of reduced use, and rushing this stage tends to create problems that surface at the worst possible time, mid-season. Equipment deserves the most thorough attention: full inspection of rental gear that sat unused, service dates for tanks and regulators checked against the season ahead rather than just the calendar date, and boats or vehicles given a proper mechanical once-over before the first booking. Staffing is worth revisiting deliberately too - confirming instructor certifications and insurance are current, refreshing anyone who has been away from teaching for a few months, and making sure new seasonal hires are properly onboarded rather than thrown straight into a full schedule. Systems matter just as much as equipment: booking software, waiver processes, and emergency contact information should all be reviewed and tested before the first real student walks through the door. A centre that treats its reopening checklist seriously tends to have a noticeably smoother first few weeks than one that simply reopens and hopes everything still works.
