Managing Dive Centre Rental Fleets: A Practical Guide
Rental equipment sees far more use, and far more varied treatment, than personally owned gear, which makes fleet management one of the less glamorous but genuinely important operational responsibilities at any busy training centre. Tracking matters more than it might seem: a simple, consistently used system for logging service dates, dive counts, and any reported issues per item catches problems long before they become a student-facing failure. Sizing range deserves real attention too - a fleet that is well-stocked in a narrow range of sizes but thin at the extremes creates a poor experience for exactly the students who already feel least confident about their gear fitting properly. Rotation matters for fairness and wear alike: cycling equipment through use evenly, rather than always reaching for the newest or most convenient pieces, extends the fleet's overall lifespan and keeps quality more consistent across the board. None of this needs to be complicated, but it does need to be consistent. Centres that treat fleet management as a genuine system, rather than an ad hoc task fitted in when there is time, tend to have noticeably fewer equipment-related surprises during a busy season.
