How to Choose the Right IDC Centre for You
With IDCs running in dive destinations all over the world, choosing where to train can feel overwhelming. Price and location are the obvious filters, but they are rarely the factors that determine how well-prepared you feel on Instructor Exam day. Start with the Course Director. Ask how many candidates they typically run per course, what their pass rates look like, and whether they offer one-to-one attention or a larger group format - both can work well, but they suit different learning styles. Ask what happens after the IDC: some centres offer mentoring, job placement support, or a route into IDC Staff Instructor training, which is valuable if you are thinking long-term about your career. Look at the training environment itself. Consistent, easy access to confined and open water matters more than a glamorous location, especially when weather or logistics can eat into limited course days. Finally, talk to instructors who trained there if you can. A centre's reputation among the people who actually went through the course tells you more than any brochure.
